Authorized Worlds IP, Takedown & Dispute Policy

Interim program terms. These pages describe the current Authorized Worlds pilot while final attorney-reviewed contributor-license, owner, takedown, and commercial-use terms are being prepared. They supplement the main City Pixels Terms of Use and may be replaced or revised before broader public participation.

This policy explains how Authorized Worlds reports and disputes are routed. It does not replace the formal City Pixels copyright process.

1. Formal copyright notices

For a formal copyright notice or counter-notice, use the City Pixels Copyright and Rights Center. Authorized Worlds report forms may be used to flag an issue quickly, but they are not a substitute for a legally required copyright notice when formal notice is necessary.

2. World-rule violations

Routine violations of an Authorized World’s published rules may be reviewed by the world owner. The world owner may request revision, deny an application, suspend a writer or project, or take other ordinary program actions allowed by the platform.

3. Platform-level issues

City Pixels may review or take control of cases involving copyright, harassment, illegal content, evidence tampering, impersonation, serious safety concerns, or appeals concerning platform procedure. City Pixels may freeze or preserve relevant evidence while a case is reviewed.

4. Idea conflicts

An idea conflict report can document a concern that fan-created material overlaps or was improperly used. City Pixels may preserve timestamps, versions, hashes, rule history, and other available records, but those records do not by themselves determine legal ownership, copyrightability, infringement, or priority.

5. Character-isolation complaints

If one fan writer believes another fan writer used that writer’s original character or distinctive expression without permission, the complaint may be treated as a rule violation, idea conflict, copyright concern, or combination of issues depending on the facts.

6. Temporary restrictions

City Pixels may temporarily unpublish material, restrict publishing, suspend access, freeze evidence, or preserve records while a dispute is reviewed. Temporary restriction is not a final determination of ownership or wrongdoing.

7. Appeals

A platform appeal is for an alleged error in City Pixels procedure or platform-rule enforcement. Creative disagreement with a world owner’s taste, canon decisions, or ordinary discretionary approval decision is not by itself grounds for a platform appeal.

8. No adjudication of legal ownership

City Pixels is a hosting and moderation platform, not a court or arbitration service. City Pixels may make platform-access decisions without deciding ultimate legal ownership between disputing parties.

9. Contact and records

Use the report tools on the relevant Authorized World or fan project when available. For formal rights matters, use the Copyright and Rights Center or the contact information provided in the main City Pixels legal pages. City Pixels may retain records reasonably needed for moderation, legal compliance, audit history, or dispute resolution.
